HEALING WITH RECOVERY DERM

  • Leave Recovery Derm on tattoo for 3-5 days. Fluid will gather under the bandage that may look black/muddy/slimy/gooey. This is normal.

  • If fluid leaks from the bandage, please remove as soon as possible. If fluid can get out, bacteria can get in.

  • If surrounding skin becomes irritated and itchy from bandage adhesive, please remove as soon as possible.

  • Showering with Recovery Derm IS SAFE! However, if water gathers in the bandage, please remove as soon as possible.

  • Please, DO NOT work out while wearing Recovery Derm. Sweat will gather under the bandage, affecting the healing process, promoting the growth of bacteria, potentially leading to infection.

  • When removing bandage, do so in the shower. Slowly peel at corner of bandage under running water. and pull away from your body. Take your time, your tattoo will be tender.

  • Once bandage is removed, follow the below instructions until fully healed!

  • Your tattoo may be itchier than using a traditional bandage, this is normal. Apply unscented lotion as needed.

HEALING WITH TRADITIONAL BANDAGE

  • Leave tattoo wrapped overnight with the bandage applied at the shop.

  • First thing the following morning, unwrap your tattoo directly prior to showering.

  • Rinse the “goo” off of your tattoo with water as warm as you can stand, using only clean hands.

  • DO NOT use a washcloth or loofa. Lather clean hands with antibacterial soap, such as Dial Gold, and gently cleanse your tattoo.

  • Rinse soap with water as warm as you can stand.

  • Before getting out of the shower, give your tattoo a COLD rinse for roughly 15-30 seconds. This will close your pores and minimize seeping/scabbing.

  • Once out of the shower, pat your tattoo dry with something you can throw away, such as a clean paper towel.

  • LEAVE YOUR TATTOO ALONE. Do not touch it, do not rub it, do not pick at it.

  • Please, DO NOT apply lotion or ointment for the first 48 hours/2 days.

  • After the first 48 hours/2 days, please only use plain, undyed, unscented lotion as needed if your tattoo feels tight, dry, itchy, or uncomfortable. Only apply lotion to a clean tattoo that has air dried for at least 30 minutes.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

  • DO NOT USE AQUAPHOR!!! Aquaphor is petroleum-based and does not absorb into the skin. It creates nothing more than a sticky, bacteria collecting layer, putting you at greater risk for potential complications or infection.

  • DO NOT USE FACIAL CLEANSER ON YOUR TATTOO!!! A gentle liquid antibacterial soap is more than enough, such as Dial Gold. Cleansers are made to strip bacteria and oils from the skin and WILL negatively affect how your tattoo heals.
